This weekend the U10, U12, U14 and U16 Touch Rugby girls travelled over to Tanglin Rugby Club (TRC) in Singapore to play their first tournament of the school year. After a very early start and a thorough warm up, all players were raring to go despite the scorching temperatures.
I thought that we were quick and very good at our dumper, dummy and runner but we could further improve by passing down the line and moving forward. It was a great experience and I think we were amazing out there.
Hannah Soh U10A Team Captian
Although they are a newly formed U14 squad, the girls demonstrated great team cohesion throughout the tournament. Their skill and passion for the sport was evident in every match, playing with conviction throughout the twenty minute games. There were some hard fought games in the pool rounds, particularly against Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) on the Sunday morning. The U14s reached the 3rd and 4th playoffs against TRC Falcons and after full time it was 3-3 which meant it was time for a ‘drop-off’, following which the final score was 4-3 to Marlborough College Malaysia (MCM).
This was a pre-season tournament for the U16s so it was preparation for the season ahead. The girls used the knowledge and experience of Stephanie Sullivan as captain, and an injured Paris Coulson to analyse team performances to play well. The U16s also played in the 3rd and 4th playoffs against LFS (Lycée Français de Singapour). MCM dominated play and successfully won 3-0. This was a great weekend of female sport: all players performed with commitment and determination to succeed.
Well done MCM.
