Roald Dahl’s birthday was celebrated in style by Year 4 on Thursday 13th September. The author would have turned 112 this year, and as the children are currently reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory in their English lessons, it seemed an appropriate excuse for a party. With the help of some special guests disguised as characters from Roald Dahl’s Matilda, George’s Marvellous Medicine, The BFG and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the children were served delicious treats that feature in the stories. Quotes from some of Dahl’s most famous works were read; facts about his life that the children had researched were shared; and marvellous medicine, “whizz pops” and birthday cake were served. The occasion was an opportunity for the children to discover more about Roald Dahl, his life and his other works. Mrs Browne, Miss Smith, Mr Firman and Miss Donaldson organised activities for the Year 4 pupils, including a “what is your Roald Dahl name” quiz; estimate the candy competition; marshmallow tower construction; and an “Oompa Loompa” photo booth. They also received Wonka bars with golden tickets to take home in their party packs. It was a successful event which the children will remember as a truly Dahl-lightful experience!
