The second annual IB Poetry Evening was both fun, creative and highly informative. The Lower 6th Literature and Performance group performed Carole Ann Duffy’s ‘Education For Leisure’, a disturbing, dramatic monologue based on a disaffected young person. Many of this year’s IGCSE anthology of poems were delivered through the medium of film such as Carolina Nino Matos’ ‘Mametz Wood’ by Owen Sheers, using Stop-Motion animation. More creative and risk-taking approaches were evident, for example, in Poppy Gibson’s confession booth where pupils were invited to confess their sins, inspired by George Herbert’s ‘Love III’. Pupils were challenged to model balloons to create a metaphor and they each presented their ideas, taking the opportunity to speak publicly in a warm and welcoming environment.
