MCM 1st XI Girls Football v ISKL
On Friday the 8th of September, the Marlborough 1st XI Girls Football team went up to KL to play 2 ISKL teams.
On Friday night after a long bus ride up from MCM, the girls warmed up and played their first match against the ISKL Varsity team – a gruelling 80 minutes. Competition was really tough, and unfortunately the girls lost this match.
The next morning, after reflecting on the difficult game the day before, the girls were ready to take on the ISKL Junior Varsity team, and to re-play the ISKL Varsity team once more. The girls ended the first half of the game against the ISKL JV team 0-0; however when it came to the second half, the girls really switched on and put on a spectacular performance. The girls worked hard for each other, and 2 well-worked goals were scored in the second half – winning us the game 2-0. MVPs of this game were: Amelia Puteri for her splendid attack and being extremely fast with the ball, and Stephanie Sullivan for her impressive defence and headers.
The second game against the ISKL Varsity team was bound to be difficult, but all the girls were determined to improve from the day before, and with some confidence from their great performance against the JV team, everyone marched onto the pitch determined to work as hard as possible. Both as a team and individually, everyone put on a great performance in this game, and really stepped up the level of play. Unfortunately the game was lost 2-0 to ISKL; however not without a fight, and the score was a great improvement from the previous day. MVPs of this game were Karina Russell – the goalie – for her great play, and Miranda Leese for her determination towards defending our goal.
This weekend has been very successful for our 1st XI girls: they have come away with a well-deserved win, and the team as a whole has shown so much improvement and development in their play. Many thanks go to Mr and Mrs Riley for their great coaching, and encouragement of the girls this weekend.
