Talk: University of the Arts, London (UAL)
The Art department recently welcomed Aries Chan, a representative from the University of the Arts, London (UAL). Aries gave a talk to fifty interested artists from Remove to Upper Sixth about art degrees, careers, portfolios and what to expect at an interview. She spoke about the importance of the art foundation course, which is not basic at all, and gives students the chance to explore a range of art disciplines before choosing a specialist degree. It was interesting to hear that UAL consider the IB Visual Arts course to be the best preparation for the type of portfolio they are looking for. Aries also spoke to a Remove art class and spent time with the Lower Sixth artists and members of the Art department, sharing lots of useful information about Art degrees and careers. The University of the Arts is the Oxbridge of the Art College World. The University brings together six famous colleges: Central Saint Martins, Camberwell College of Arts, Chelsea College of Arts, London College of Communication, London College of Fashion, Wimbledon College of the Arts. They have many famous and successful alumni including artist Anish Kapoor and fashion designer Alexander McQueen. Aries will return to MCM to give further information and advice later in the year.
