The Prep School held their last music recital of the academic year with a slight variation in the venue – it took place in the amphitheatre outside the Senior School Drama Hall. What seemed like an overly-bold idea during its stages of conception proved to be a brilliant one, as parents, pupils and beaks moved outdoors for a balmy evening of music and song. Despite some threatening skies in the mid-afternoon, the favourable weather held fast.
Alongside the usual roll of solo performers and Prep School choirs, the Prep School Orchestra also made its debut with two ensemble arrangements of popular piano works by French composer Yann Tiersen and Korean pianist Yiruma. Formed at the start of the Summer term, and ably-assisted by the College’s violin teacher Miss Zata and Hundred Boarder Dayini, the Orchestra is made up of musicians from Years 4 to 8.
Amongst the fine line-up of singers and musicians, Natanya regaled the audience with two soulful renditions of songs from Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera, while Yi Xing demonstrated skill beyond her years with her performance on guitar and vocals.
Well done to all the performers involved in the recital and congratulations for all your hard work over the year.
