With the long anticipated ACSIS Running Championships only a week away, the MCM U14 squad travelled to their last friendly on 6th November, for some final race preparations. The friendlies throughout the season have not only been an excellent way of keeping our runners on track and fit for competition, they have also provided valuable opportunities for the team to experiment with pacing, race tactics and, also, build their confidence.
The 3.2km course at Bedok Reservoir was common ground for most of the MCM team and they lined up at the start fairly relaxed that they knew what to expect from the route. Having said this, nerves were still high at the thought of running it!
It was an absolutely spectacular day for MCM and so exciting to see us coming in alongside the top runners from the seven other participating schools. Special mention must go to Harriet Place who took 1st place for the U14 girls and ran a convincing and confident race. Robin Van Sallandt also excelled with a top 10 finish and another strong performance.
The U14 boys stormed the finish en masse and MCM stole 5 top 20 finishes within this category. Congratulations to Riyadh Khan, who has been training hard and clearly making gains; jumping an incredible 23 places since his last race and coming in 7th place overall.
I hope that such a positive set of results will dispel any nerves about next week’s competition at the ACSIS Running Champs!
