U11 Basketball v AIS and UWC
The Under 11s Basketball came up against some very strong opposition at their first fixture, a mini-tournament held at Stamford American School in Singapore. However, they did not shy away from the challenge. Although losing in their first game 5-18 to the Australian International School, their tenacity and teamwork really shone through, giving the Aussies a really hard time in defence at times. Special mention must go to Inego Orchard for his probing runs and brilliant eye for a pass.
However, it was in the second of their games that the strength of our 11-man squad really shone through. Being (for most) only their second ever time playing basketball the boys put on a nail-biting 15-14 thriller against a very well practiced UWC Dover side, with MCM leading all the way up to the last minute of play only to have victory snatched away from them at the very last moment. Although it is very difficult to single out individuals in such and brilliant display of teamwork, Hong Lee Low must be given credit for his excellent captaincy and fantastic dribbling skills. Additionally, Harry Coe’s and George Miller’s sterling work in their point guard and centre positions in keeping the score line extremely tight throughout.
Overall I was delighted with the team’s performance; promising signs of what will hopefully be a very strong season for U11 Basketball.
