U11 and U14 X-Country
On Wednesday 11th September twenty Marlborough students competed in the first X-country running friendly of the season, at Bedok Reservoir in Singapore. The U14 team took on a 3km course and the U11s a 2.2km course, both enduring a large hill along the way. All runners from the eleven participating schools faced a tough challenge with the massive incline and the conditions were hot and sunny, making it even more gruelling.
A brief warm-up and dash for the start line certainly shook off any nerves for the MCM runners and they each lined up determined and ready to run their best in their respective categories. The atmosphere was fantastic and all runners were cheered into the funnel at the end of the course. MCM runners did the school proud and stayed focussed until the very end.
There were outstanding individual performances from Freddie Smith, who finished 10th in the U14 Boys’ category and Robin Van Sallandt achieved 14th in the U14 Girls’ category. Joshua Cox ran a storming race and came in 2nd for the U11 Boys and Kensie McNaught competed fiercely for an extremely respectable 9th place in the U11 Girls’ category.
