On Sunday 18th August, seven Prep School children took to the water, track and road to compete in the Tri-Factor Series Triathlon at East Coast Park, Singapore. Due to it still being the summer holidays, the squad was smaller than normal and unfortunately we lost several members due to illness or injury. Fortunately however, this did little to dampen the high spirits displayed on the race morning.
The race consisted of a 100m swim, a 5km bike and a 1km run. However, all those who took part agreed that the swim certainly appeared to be a rather long 100m! A couple of the girls also decided that a 1km run wasn¹t long enough, and took themselves off onto the 2.4km route (unbeknownst to the them!).
For most of the children, this was their first attempt at a triathlon. Considering relay teams were not allowed, I¹m sure you¹ll agree that it was an admirable feat to individually take on that sort of endurance event, especially as all of the children were aged 10 years or younger.
I would like to particularly congratulate Amelie Tsang who, at the tender age of 7, came second in the run portion of the race, beating girls who were 4 years older than herself and finishing 9th overall for the Junior Girls. I think it¹s safe to say, she has earned herself a spot in the running team this year!
Congratulations to all those that took part and hopefully this sees the start of a successful year for MCM competing in the tri-calendar.
